Unit 3
This is my relief carving piece which is supposed to be a "hand-tree". When I first thought about what I was going to make for this, I was thinking a pot, but then I saw online a hand, so I decided to work from there which brought me to this idea. At first, I didn't think I would be able to make a good enough hand, but after working on it for a few days and getting the layout, it all came together and turned out well.
This is my sgraffito piece, I started by looking at pots, and found one with this pattern, and thought this would look good as just a tile, so I cut out a square and pants it black. Then I took a scrapping tool and slowly took off some of the black giving it this pattern.
This is my slump mold, I took a pineapple shaped plate and flattened a piece of clay and formed it to this mold. Then I painted SpongeBob Squarepants house on to it giving it this pattern. This idea just came from finding this plate and thinking of that show.
This is my coil piece. The idea of this was to make a bowl type thing and then have something kind of looking over it, so I used a normal coil wrap around with a small coil cereal in the middle as the bowl, the I added the twisted coil as the extra decoration and kind of handle.
This is my final, a lobster phone by Salvador Dali. I got this idea because my dad really likes this artiest, especially for his melting clock art, so I started looking into that and found this and thought it would be fun to make. It started off kind of difficult to get the shape of everything, but after that, it went pretty smoothly from there.
My piece blew up! I believe this is because I did not wedge it enough there for adding to many air bubbles in the phone part of my piece.
This is Salvador Dali, he was born 1904 and died in 1989 making him, 84 years old when he died. He made the painting of the Lobster Phone. He is most famously know for his melting clock art but makes other things such as the Lobster phone which is now being held in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.
