Semester 2 goals
Last semester, I didn't know much about ceramics. When I first started wedging, all my clay had air bubbles in it and I made a bomb almost every time I made a piece. But throughout the semester, I learned how to wedge properly and make things I wanted to make. I learned how to make the right detentions of everything and to base what I'm making off of a picture if needed. I have also learned the importance of size. In the past, I have made things too large, not giving me enough time to finish doing what I want to do on the piece without it drying out. I have also learned the importance of detail. Smoothing out my pieces have made them look a lot better, and adding the right texture has made them pop out a lot more.
This semester, I want to continue learning about texture and how to make my pieces come to life more. I would also like to learn how to use the wheels and make pots and such with the wheels. Another skill I would like to build upon is painting my pieces. I have seen many unfinished pieces really come alive just by a good painter, and I hope this semester, I can at least gain a better understanding of it. Finally, I would like to learn how make a proper face, such as making a bust, I would like to learn how to make the right divots in my clay to make the piece look alive and complete.
