Unit 4 Projects

This is my monster, I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the final product with the picture the kid made, but it is black and red, and is shiny. I started with a lump of clay and shaped it into a rock form. Then I cut an out line of the 4 mouths and put little clay supports tell it got hard enough to hold the mouths open it's self. Then I went on and scratched and slipped on the 6 legs making them look like they are slightly moving, or at least trying. Then when I fired it, one of the legs fell off, so I had to paint on some red like the monster lost the leg. It was annoying in some parts, but I figured it all out with limited problems.

My alebrije is supposed to be an iguana. I started with a sort of worm kind of shape to make the body, and made the tail. Then I added a lump of clay on top as a place holder for the head. After that, I worked on making the legs and attached them. After attaching the legs, I made the feet and started shaping the body and head once it was strong enough to hold it all. Then I carved the face and fired the lizard. There was very little difficulties other than the leg shapes.

My set of 4 are 4 little glasses. I started with the first cup as very small, as a sort of a reference for the rest of them. It didn't take long to finish, due to the cups being small and pretty easy to make. The only difficulty was making them similar sizes and making them smooth.

I started with looking for a historical piece and found a bull sculpture and making it a bowl as well. I made the shape of the bull by making the clay thinner and make the head and feet. Then I added the horns and smoothed out the whole thing. after this I made the head shape more defined and made a bowl shape in the bull. Then I put under glaze on it and fired it.

This is my 3D master piece, a lobster phone by Salvador Dali. I got this idea from looking online and seeing artists names I recognize, and I liked his melting clock art, so I started looking into that and found this and thought it would be fun to make. It started off kind of difficult to get the shape of everything, but after that, it went pretty smoothly from there, I made the shape of the lobster with individual little donuts shapes for the body and them connected everything. Then I made the phone from a bit block of clay.
